Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather

Okay, now for the more important things in life. Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather have a big fight coming up on May 5th. De La Hoya is considered by most "experts" to be the underdog. I disagree, I think Oscar can and will win this fight. It is true that Mayweather is the faster of the two, but Oscar is no slouch in the speed department either, and he can punch too. Oscar is light years ahead of Mayweather in the quality of his opponents as well. You would be hard pressed to find anyone that has pushed Mayweather, with the exception of Jose Luis Castillo, who some people feel deserved the nod on their first fight. Factor in Diego Corrales and Zab Judah and you have the sum total of great fights he has been involved in (and they weren't that great). I won't even mention Arturo Gotti and Genaro Hernandez, whom he beat, but only after De La Hoya did it first and better, and while both of them were closer to their prime.

De La Hoya has fought; win, lose or draw, in no particular order; Sugar Shane Mosely, Julio Cesar Chavez, Bernard Hopkins, Felix Trinidad, Ricardo Mayorga, Fernando Vargas, Ike Quartey, Pernall Whitaker and Hector Camacho. That experience will be the difference. On top of that, Oscar is used to fighting at a heavier weight, which will work for him in two ways, he will have easier time absorbing Mayweathers punches (add to that, Mayweather is not a big puncher) and Mayweather will be absorbing the punch of a naturally heavier fighter (add to that, Oscar is a big puncher). I'll go on record and predict an Oscar victory. If anyone does get knocked out, it will be Mayweather.

Just for the record: Mayweather has brought up the fact that De La Hoya fought an "old" Pernell Whitaker. Whitaker was thirty two years old when he and De La Hoya fought in 1997. Oscar is thirty four years old, two years older than Whitaker was when when they fought. Mayweather should do his homework before he opens his mouth, because at that time Whitaker was rated pound for pound, the number one fighter in the world, hardly an "old" man. So what's his point?

I second Randyman;I pick Oscar to stop Floyd. As Randy mentioned,Floyd "won" by robbery in his first fight with Jose Luis Castillo. And as far as his biggest wins are concerned,Arturo Gatti has been a walking dead man since his nuclear wars with Mickey Ward-and Diego Corrales must've been living on a piece of lettuce a day to make 130.And he's been "okay" at best at 147 against Carlos Baldimir and Zab Judah. He's not as quick-and he's lost a lot of his punch.
